Long story short: I'm not feeling much better yet. Lyme treatment has been a rollercoaster, and an exhausting one at that. But I'm okay. I've had lots of practice feeling this way, and I'm just really grateful that now we know why. It's still early days, and we have so many options still on the table. I'm really ready to feel better, but in the meantime, I'm still able to plod along with my reading and studying, my sewing and gardening. And this slow living isn't the worst thing ever.

At my sickest, it was hard to remember that France was anything other than "the place I got sick." I thought of moldy walls and fevers and panic attacks. But as I've physically recovered, I've also been actively healing my mind and memories. EMDR was amazing for taking the sting out of the hard memories, and DNRS has really helped bring the good ones back to the forefront. So now I can remember exactly how delicious a croissant aux amandes is, or how pretty it was to walk along the Vidourle river. And when I think of France, I think of the place where my son took his first sweet wobbly steps and where I learned and grew more than I ever had before.

Physical recovery is obviously my main goal, but this mental recovery has given me so much peace and hope to hang on to during that process. Next goal: to actually be able to eat the croissants I daydream about. 😁

Hello Fall 🌻🤗💛

After years of being more sick and/or stressed in the fall, I'm actively trying NOT to brace myself for the worst this year. Instead, I'm practicing hope: assuming my Lyme treatment is working (the herxes would suggest so), pursuing my last prerequisite before grad school, and dreaming up the perfect homemade dragon Halloween costume for my kiddo. Because it's gonna be a good fall y'all!

Big health news: I got DIAGNOSED! Like the big, root-of-everything diagnosis. I have Lyme Disease. The test came back really clearly positive, which was a shock and a relief after years of negative results for just about everything.
.
I'm now beginning what will likely be 6 months to a year of targeted treatment with a Lyme-literate functional doctor. If all goes well, I could be feeling significantly better soon. With my DNRS progress already made, this feels alarmingly within reach.
.
It's weird after years of resignation to fatigue and pain to think and hope for a "normal" life again. I'm having to stop myself from assuming that the treatment won't work or obsessing over the accounts of folks with stubbornly chronic Lyme. I know this disease is tricky, but I also really trust the doctor who caught it within weeks of meeting me. And I'm starting to once again trust in my own body's resilience.

So, in brief, I'm not out of the weeds yet, but at least I know where I am now. Onwards to health!
